When your child has cancer, sickle cell or other blood-related diseases, you’re ready to tackle any obstacle to a cure. At Children’s of Mississippi Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, we join you in that journey, bringing together a team of pediatric cancer experts with the training and advanced treatments to give your child the best possible outcome. And because the top treatments include hugs and smiles, we’re experts in those, too.
Experienced, research-driven care
The Children’s of Mississippi Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, part of Children’s of Mississippi, provides treatment for any Mississippi child with cancer, sickle cell and blood-related diseases. You don’t have to have money or insurance, or participate in a clinical trial to receive care. As Mississippi’s only academic medical center and only children’s hospital, our team sees many cancer cases every year and is experienced in treating common, complex, and rare types.
Here, children benefit from care led by doctors and other specialists who are also searching for new cures and better treatments for cancer. The knowledge our doctors gain is used to provide advanced care for your child. Our doctors teach the state’s next generation of caregivers the most up-to-date treatments for childhood cancers. We also offer clinical trials for new therapies and new combinations of existing treatments.
Support that makes a difference
At Children’s of Mississippi Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, we know treating cancer takes more than just medicine and procedures. That’s why we offer meaningful support for you and your child at every point during diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Our staff and volunteers work together to provide everything from family support groups, to nutritional counseling, and even lodging at the Ronald McDonald House. At Children’s, you have help wherever you are in the cancer journey.
Comfort, confidence, and convenience
Having a familiar routine and seeing the same friendly faces brings comfort, so we make sure that our patients receive most of their care in our clinic. This also helps parents and families navigate our campus with more confidence.
Sickle cell care
In addition to oncology services, our center provides comprehensive care for approximately 950 sickle cell disease patients across the state.
As a large pediatric sickle cell program with a long tradition in clinical research, our center is sought after for multi-center trials. Currently, there are six open multi-center trials and two in-house trials studying sickle cell disease and treatment.
Our staff includes a nurse practitioner, nurse coordinator and research nurses dedicated to our sickle cell patients. We have an adolescent sickle cell program as well as a joint sickle cell/asthma clinic. Our patients also can benefit from a community-based foundation that funds an annual summer champ, adolescent retreat, patient scholarships and other educational activities.
